The Lost Princess of Mongolia, 2009-2014
Anne Duk Hee Jordan’s own personal background and history is a red threat, which runs through her early artistic research. In 2009 she started to create The Lost Princess of Mongolia, a semi-autobiographical filmic work that combines real and fictional elements of her life. Jordan is a Korean foundling who was adopted to German parents when she was three years old. She grew up in the Southwestern part of Germany, and has not returned to South Korea since her adoption. She always imagined half of her genes must be Mongolian. Since she was very young, Anne Duk Hee has been conveying the protagonist’s history and identity, a story that she continued to develop throughout her adolescent years. She plays the main character in the film; the Princess mirrors her own life path of not belonging to a single culture or nation. The process of searching and exploring becomes a life-long journey, in which wandering is a main theme. This atypical documentary is conceived as a series of trailers. Existing and fictional landscapes, reality and dream merge into one another.
