Transit, 2008
I work with living organisms, the growth of which contributes to the expression of my work. I understand art as creative research, in which small preliminary tests are crucial for a larger work. The experiment "lotus flower" is an example of this. Everything takes time. The lotus flower was locked up in the water. For more than half a year, these and other microorganisms developed in a glass cube that was sealed. She could only survive through her own photosynthesis. This work was the cornerstone for Transit (2009), a work by letting grass grow down in the water, contrary to normal. Elements of life such as light, water, minerals and seeds from which the grass sprouts are linked together. The amber as the central element is considered a metaphor for the elementary particle. The smallest unit that builds everything, that transforms into every being and that circulates between all things. Everything seems somehow normal, except only when you take a closer look you can see that something is wrong and that the glass case and its contents are actually working upside down.
